World Water Day 2007/ Manuscript now available!

'Coping with Water Scarcity' is the theme for World Water Day 2007, which is celebrated each year on 22 March. The theme highlights the significance of cooperation and importance of an integrated approach to water resource management of water at both international and local levels.

Equity and rights, cultural and ethical issues are essential to be addressed when dealing with limited water resources. Imbalances between availability and demand, the degradation of groundwater and surface water quality, intersectoral competition, interregional and international disputes, all center around the question of how to cope with scarce water resources.

As themes for World Water Day are similar to The Drops Of Life we want to celebrate the day and send our contribution: The English manuscript of The Drops Of Life is now available here! If your school is interested in performing the global premiere with us on 29th of May just send your contact information here.

Download the English manuscript (and sheet music) here.

Preparations in Botswana

This message comes from John Nswazwi Junior Secondary, Botswana:

We had decided to have our own perspective about the play and stage it our way. There are four (4) government schools that have shown interest and have started working on the play.the schools are John Nswazwi Junior Secondary, Sua Junior Secondary, Nxakato Junior Secondary, and Dukwi Junior Secondary. Teachers of Enlish language also play a major role in assisting us to achieve our objectives. These schools have worked as partners in so many activities, that is why we are sure that this activity shall not fail.
The drama competitions are scheduled for next monday (26/03/07) in the afternoon here at our school. We have invited the public to attend as well as elders of the village. the reason why monday was agreed on is because we shall be going on vacation soon (04/04/2007) until early May, so we wanted to finish this term's activities then start on a clean slate in the coming one.

Briefly about the songs

Song I: A Tickling Song
: A funny song where animals feel itchy and scratch each other.

Song II : A Tree Planting Song: The animals plant their seeds and seedlings.

Song III: Water Blues : This song is about the importance of water. As animals are digging the ground searching for water this is a work song, a blues. Water Blues.

Song IV: There Are No Walls Between Us :The last song in the play, about the importance of environmental protection and co-operation.

To make this as easy as possible, we have made audio background music for participating schools. They can play the music on the background and sing. There is also sheet music available here in the blog.

Song IV: There Are No Walls Between Us

Here is the Song IV. In this version the author of this play (Mr Esko-Pekka Tiitinen) plays flute in intro and other parts.

An instrumental version:

Song IV: There Are No Wall Between Us ( FINAL), mp3

School from Germany and 54 countries

Wilhelm-Kaisen-Schule from Bremen (Germany) joined the drops of life. There are now 54 countries involved.

See the current list of participating schools (to be updated during March) here.

School from Jordan and 53 countries so far

Amman Baccalaureate school from Jordan joined our group and will perform The Drops Of Life 29th of May 2007. We have now schools already from 53 countries who will take part. And as the process will start at some new schools during 2-3 weeks we will get more schools and countries. I wonder if this kind of world premiere have ever been arranged?

Song III: Water Blues

Here is the audio file for the background. It was nice to make this recording. It was my first time to practise how to play slide guitar. I found a small bottle (an empty one :-) ) of cough medicine, put it in to my finger and slided it. It was fun though my children thought it was annoying because I practised half an hour.... not medicine for their ears....

Tree Planting Day in Iran and 1100 trees!

A national tree planting day was celebrated today in Iran. One of the Iranese ENO schools Sepehr Primary School went to Pardisan park in Iran Environment Organization and planted about 1 100 trees and sang the tree planting song. ENO students formed a separate group . Each group searched about one tree species then made a wallpaper and paper about it. ENO students told their information to other students. Some of the news channel and newspaper came and made reports. We miss you because we had a very special day but I send these picture for you.

First rehearsals at Pataluoto School, Finland

Today we had a workshop about The Drops Of Life at Pataluoto School, Finland. We introduced the play for students and our school choir got to hear the music for the play.

We will have two performances at Pataluoto School: the first (and global premiere) 29th of May 2007. The second one will be 31st of May 2007. As so many students were interested we made two castings and two performances.
